Eimear Conyard uses the idea that jewellery is not merely adornment but also an object independent from the body. In her sculptures ‘Pebbles are usually nice things, things you collect, memories 1 & 2’ they contain detachable jewellery. Her sculptural jewellery uses contrasting precious and non-precious materials to build resting places for jewellery; large hollow forms created to house and build this other context, a second place of being exclusive of the human physique. I really love the narrative that these objects hold and the idea that the jewellery has a place to house itself when you are not wearing it. I was interested in the title because of my work is linked to material and memories. Conyard produces interesting vessels to house the jewellery and that creates a combination of jewellery but also sculpture.
